Different Ways to Integrate with Boards on Fire

In conversations with new customers, we are often asked whether Boards on Fire can integrate with other systems to automatically collect and update data. The answer is YES, it works very well. And it doesn’t have to be complicated!

If data is available from any source, it can also be imported and visualized in Boards on Fire. This could be data from systems such as ERP, CRM, MES, PLM, production systems, management systems, machinery, or other tools.

To understand integrations, we need to start at the right place: Boards on Fire itself. All data displayed in our components, whether entered manually or fetched from external systems is stored in what we call a data source.

A data source can contain multiple fields, such as “target” and “actual.” We support a variety of data types, allowing us to model the data according to how it appears in your existing systems.

When a new data source is created, a REST API compliant with the OpenAPI standard is automatically generated. This API is used for integrations and supports standard REST operations, as well as a particularly useful IMPORT function for handling large amounts of data in bulk, perfect when many rows need to be updated regularly.

Integrations can be implemented in different ways depending on the specific requirements of each case. In the video below, we explain three different ways to integrate with Boards on Fire, including CSV file integration via SFTP and sending data from Power BI using Power Automate.

Different ways to integrate with Boards on Fire

Integration Client:

  • A custom client retrieves data behind your firewall, maps it to the correct structure, and sends it to our API.
  • Stable and flexible.
  • Requires development resources on your side.

CSV via SFTP:

  • Continuously upload a CSV file.
  • Boards on Fire automatically triggers import, mapping, and updates all boards.
  • No developer required.

Power BI + Power Automate:

  • Fetch data in Power BI → send it via Power Automate → we receive the CSV via SFTP → done.
  • A smooth and rapidly growing integration solution.
  • No developer required.
